Champions of Active Education
Mount Kelly students have the opportunity to take part in various extracurricular activities.
Mount Kelly’s co-curricular programme is a vital component of school life, especially for boarders. Its unique location on the edge of Dartmoor National Park offers unique activities designed to enrich its pupils’ lives.
The Ten Tors expedition is an annual challenge that sees pupils tackling 35, 45, or 55 miles across some of the UK’s most rugged terrain. Over two days, participants wild camp and demonstrate complete self-sufficiency.
Another highlight for Sixth Form pupils is the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Marathon. Spanning 125 miles, this event concludes under Westminster Bridge, providing a remarkable sense of achievement after four days of paddling.
Beyond these challenges, Mount Kelly champions active education, evidenced by research linking physical activity to academic success. Sports includes traditional options like rugby, hockey, netball, and cricket, while newer activities such as jazz dance, yoga, and Pilates focus on mental health and well-being.
But the scope of co-curricular activities extends far beyond sports. Boarders and day pupils engage in chess, drama, music, debating, art workshops, and even beekeeping.
Musical opportunities see pupils excelling in instrument performance and ensemble participation. Academic enrichment options also allow pupils to delve into subjects such as the history of art, global affairs, and philosophy.
