Dartmoor Auctions have been celebrating their last auction in March with some fantastic results for vendors.
From a family who have been downsizing, living not two miles from the Saleroom the most extraordinary amount of gold and silver went under the hilarious hammer of Ann teak (AKA Mrs Ann Thorp) on Saturday March 1. Tim the owner declined the suggestion to dress as a Giant Leek to celebrate his Welshness. There's only room for one bonkers person in the business.
More than 1,000 lots went under Ann's gavel, and all the preparation of Ann and Tiggers meant an enormously successful sale took place with some fantastic prices for vendors but always a bargain to be had amongst the luxury.
A pretty little Gold Rolex watch sparked an exciting bidding war and eventually settled at £230 including premium. There was a great atmosphere in the room as all the Devon characters crept out of the woodwork and added to the jollity (there was also a young family with small children who continually looked bewildered at it all - I do hope they return!)
The hammer was rung frequently to denote a £100 bid and telephone bidders and the internet were continually frothing at the month to get a piece of the action. Many of the lots were absolutely amazing.
The most beautiful Chesterfield sofa with fabulous patina plus a couple of wingback chairs made over £800 including premium, but it was for sure the gold that made the day - "There's gold in them there hills."
The next Dartmoor Auctions sale is on the first Saturday of the month as usual:
Saturday April 5 / Doors open from 9 am / Auction starts at 9.30 am
