Witheridge 2
THE Lambs suffered another home defeat at the hands of high flying Witheridge, currently third in the league table.
The home team were without the services of Dave Hallett, Jamie Ahearn, Dean Smith, Andy Meeds, and Matt Hatfield, due to injury. Ryan Moorhead returned to the squad having recovered from his foot injury.
The Lambs started well and took the game to the visitors. They were denied the lead in the 10th minute when Joe Tickle made a great save to deny Ian Rook from scoring after some fine work by Tom Barwell to set up the chance.
The Lambs did get the ball in the net two minutes later when Jarryd Kelly found Rooke who slotted the ball home, only for it to be ruled out for offside. Castle in the home goal then made two smart saves to deny the visitors who were now finding a foot-hold in the game. In the 19th minute the visitors took the lead when Jordan Charran played the ball through, to split the home defence and find Dave Rowe, who fired home from 18 yards.
Three minutes later after a fine move Kinsman collected the ball just outside the penalty area but his powerful shot whistled over the bar.
Just before the interval, following a corner kick, Lowton shot wide of the target. Castle then made a fine save to see the Lambs a single goal on the stroke of half-time.
The game swung from end to end in the opening period of the second half, with both keepers in fine form. On the hour the visitors doubled their lead when Rowe became provider as he headed the ball down into the path of Charran, who rifle the ball home from 16 yards.
The Lambs continued to have a fair share of the game and the visitors' keeper Tickle was kept busy, and made some fine saves to keep the Lambs from opening their account.
The introduction of Moorhead in the 63rd minute saw the Lambs increase the tempo of their game and they really began to cause the visitors more problems with the speed in their attacks.
Lambs striker Alex Lowe, who was lively all game, with his pace up front causing the Witheridge defence problems, was denied three times in the last fifteen minutes as Tickle pulled off three top class saves, to be man of the match for the visitors.
This was another game that the Lambs should have had a share of the spoils, but once again they failed to score, when they had periods in control of the game. The cutting edge in front of goal is proving and continues to be a real problem. After this defeat the Lambs now face a real battle to get out of the relegation places and they will need to show some real desire and fortitude to get them out of the bottom two.
