Bere Alston United 4
Polperro 2
A much changed Bere Alston team with Pete Charlick and Will Westlake as joint managers kicked off against last season's division one champions Polperro at the Down. However, after seven minutes Bere were two-nil down.
A cross was headed in as Bere's defence left it for each other to clear and on seven minutes a superb free kick, which hit the cross bar and upright for Polperro's second left Bere stunned.
Then the old style Bere Alston emerged as Polperro was pushed back and only some poor finishing and good keeping retained Polperro's lead.
The second half was mostly one way as Bere piled on the pressure and Mike Curtis scored with an outrageous volley. Adam Cunningham came on as sub and immediately played James Follett in to race clear and score. A free kick hit hard across goal saw Alec Lowe glance a header in at the far post. More pressure gave Cunningham a chance to stab home.
Bere Alston's new keeper Mark Webber handled the ball superbly in awful conditions with Nathan Blamey commanding the game.
