ON Easter Bank Holiday Monday, husband and wife Bere Alston Trekkers Derek and Yvonne Hicks travelled west to take on The Tunnel 10 Run at Fowey.
Organised by the River Fowey Gig Club, this out and back route on the usually closed private clay road between Par and Fowey, involved running twice through Cornwall’s longest tunnel – the Pinnock Tunnel – which is just over one kilometre long. Derek finished his race in 1 hour 10 minutes 53 seconds and Yvonne crossed the line in 1.11.01, and also claimed a distance personal best.
On Sunday, lady BAT Heather French donned her BAT-girl costume to take part in the Health-on-Line Bournemouth Bay Run in association with the British Heart Foundation.
Competitors were able to choose from a variety of distances, all taking place against the backdrop of Bournemouth’s seven-mile stretch of golden sand and sparkling seas.
Competitors were invited to celebrate being their own hero and take part in the optional superhero fancy dress theme.
BAT-girl Heather opted for the half marathon distance, finishing her race in 2.07.22.
The BATs will be out in force at next weekend’s Tavy13.
