HAVING already been crowned champions, Tavistock welcomed Shobrooke Park in a celebratory mood. Ian Gray finished the season top scorer with 500 plus runs after his 23, Aaron Churchill promoted to 3 with 29; Dave Manning with 8 fours and a six in his 64, Jamie Stephens 22, Tim Pope 26, and departing South African Thokozani Peter with an unbeaten 49 contributed to a fine 250 for 8 in the allotted 45 overs. In the field, the high levels set and expected were maintained throughout, whereby the bowlers chipped away at the Shobrooke order. Jonty Newtorn deserved his wicket, as did Lee Baker whilst running through his variations in preparation for next season. Once again, it was the spinners who did the damage, Jamie Stephens 2, Sean Cleave 2 and leading wicket taker Shaun Daymond 4, running through the batsmen and bowling them out for 162, to win by 88 runs. Thanks were expressed to Margaret Manning for her ever devoted scoring and to all who have contributed and enjoyed a wonderful season for Tavistock Cricket Club.
Club president Stuart Munday is pictured presenting South African player Thokozani Peter with farewell gifts before his return home, having helped Tavistock Cricket Club win promotion by 30 points.
