Shoebrooke firsts v Tavistock firsts
TAVISTOCK travelled to Shobrooke on Saturday, hoping to keep up their promotion push.
Losing the toss, they found themselves in the field in hot conditions and a firm pitch. Steady batting from Shobrooke saw the score tick along. Ford and James made scores in the 40s, and with many contributions, the hosts reached a decent score of 259 for 8.
Matt Puttock bowled well for Tavistock and took four wickets, Captain, Shaun Daymond, had 2-47, and Charlie Barriball, with 1 - 23 off nine overs, kept things tight.
After a pause in proceedings to watch England in the football World Cup, Tavistock began the run chase, losing an early wicket.
Billy Barriball joined Ian Gray and began to exact control on the match. Gray followed his century with another 57 and added 131 for the second wicket. Barriball marched on, reaching a wonderful century with 14 fours and one six and, joined by Dave Manning, they quickly took over the game.
Manning hammered 54 not out, including four sixes, as Tavistock won the game with nearly seven overs to spare, keeping their promotion hopes alive.
