Devon A
Cornwoood firsts v Tavistock firsts
TAVISTOCK travelled to league leaders Cornwood on Saturday to play the side at the top of the table with some players left behind to bolster the seconds in a bid to avoid relegation from their league.
Batting first James White and Ian Gray gave Tavistock a solid start with 48 for the first wicket with White making 27 and Gray 21. Captain Dave Manning batting at four kept the scoreboard ticking with his usual patience and hard hitting combination and with Auchamp and Charlie Barriball making contributions, the visitors achieved a fair score of 174. Goodliffe with 3-31 and James with 4-39 were the pick of the Cornwood bowlers.
Tavistock knew they had to bowl well and Dylan Auchamp with two early wickets set the home side back. All the visiting bowlers performed well, especially young Ben Evans with nine overs for 1-28 wickets were taken in vital sections of the game. Auchamp with 4-35 and Shawn Daymond with 3-51, Charlie Barriball’s 10 overs for just 14 runs helped Tavistock squeeze the Cornwood side’s run rate and bowled them out for 158. No Cornwood batsman scored more than 30 and this gave Tavistock a win by 16 runs.
This was an excellent effort by Tavistock to beat the league leaders away. Tavistock CC congratulate Billy and Charlie Barriball in being selected for the Devon Lions side against Somerset in a two-day game this weekend.
