Tavistock firsts v Ipplepen
TAVISTOCK firsts entertained Ipplepen on a warm and sunny afternoon, winning the toss and electing to bat.
James White and Ian Gray started well, putting on 83 for the first wicket, before White was dismissed. Captain Billy Barriball joined Gray and the two began to pile on the runs. Barriball reached 68 from 70 balls before departing but Gray kept on batting, going past 100 and then past 150, in a majestic innings that saw the team reach 302 for 4 in their 45 overs, Gray out just before the close for a magnificent 154.
The score was probably just over par on a superb wicket. However, Ipplepen, tired from ball chasing in the heat, were soon in trouble against Dom Snyman and James McGaghey, slumping to 34-5.
Things did not improve, and at 73-7 a sizeable defeat looked inevitable. However, Callum King and Ben Forsey steadied the ship and put on an impressive 84 for the eighth wicket, with Tavistock bowlers struggling to break through.
The Barriball brothers did the trick, breaking the partnership and wrapping up the innings which closed on 168, giving Tavistock a win by 134 runs.
