Stoke Gabriel seconds v
Whitchurch seconds
WHITCHURCH seconds travelled to Stoke Gabriel on the back of two wins and they could have made it three, but missed their opportunities.
Webber won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. Hall achieved an early breakthrough aided by a swirling catch from Tamblin. Withington (32) and Robinson (18) moved the Stoke score along, before Kerswill took the first of two diving catches.
The middle order was ripped out by Kerswill (2 for 18) to leave Stoke struggling on 75-5. Whitchurch then took their foot off the pedal and allowed Stoke back in to the game. Reeves (42) and Lardner (39) added 77 for the sixth wicket. When they went, the tail soon followed with Marais (4-30) mopping up the final wickets as Stoke posted 164.
The visitors made a steady start, without ever really getting going. At drinks they were 65-3 and set for a promising chase. However, a clatter of wickets put paid to that.
Marais top scored with 33 as Lardner’s beguiling off breaks took 4-23. Thereafter, only McKenzie and Kerswill managed to score double figures, as the wickets continued to fall.
Whitchurch were eventually dismissed for 122.
Stoke Gabriel won by 42 runs.
