Whitchurch seconds v Ipplepen thirds
THE Whitchurch seconds got their first win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Ipplepen.
Skipper Webber won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the top order failed to fire as Whitchurch slumped to 20 for 3. Tapley (3-30) doing the damage. Marais and Hunt (23) restored a bit of order, but fell in quick succession leaving the hosts on 66-5. Meadows and Tamblin then set about building a partnership. Meadows dealing in boundaries while Tamblin nurdled the ball around. They had added 122 for the sixth wicket when Meadows was well caught in the deep by Topley for 81.
Tamblin was then left to marshal the tail and ensure maximum batting points. In partnership with Webber 49 was added. Tamblin (52 not out) completing a deserved half century off the last ball of the innings. Whitchurch posting 248-8.
Ipplepen reply was mainly boundaries. Boon (17) and Maynard (28) had their side scoring at the required run rate. Whitchurch, though got breakthroughs at key points.
Hall took 3-40 to leave the visitors on 92-5. Thereafter, only Borlase (30) offered much resistance. Meadows (2-13) and Webber (2-12) clearing up the tail, as Ipplepen were dismissed for 142.
