ALL 225 places for this year's Dartmoor Discovery ultra marathon on June 9 have been taken.
The popular 32-mile annual event, organised by the Teignbridge Trotters, starts and finishes at Princetown in the heart of Dartmoor.
It is the UK's longest single-lap road race and attracts some of the country's top ultra distance runners, as well as hardy enthusiasts of all ages. Organisers say 'it combines stunning views with several tough hills and notoriously unpredictable weather, resulting in a true test of body and soul.'
Race director Roger Hayes, who is also chairman of the Teignbridge Trotters, said: 'This year, there's a great buzz around the race and I'd love to see even more runners cross the finishing line bursting with the intense pride and satisfaction of completing their first ultramarathon.'
A huge logistical operation ensures all aspects of the event proceeds smoothly. An estimated 120 people, including members of the Dartmoor Radio Club and St John Ambulance, help out on the day in a variety of roles, from marshalling and timekeeping to staffing water stations and providing catering. Sponsors include Ironbridge Runner, St Austell Brewery, Ashfords' Solicitors, the Road Runners Club, South Dartmoor Community College and Linhay Projects.
