SUNDAY’s poor weather did not deter almost 200 athletes turning up at Tavistock College’s athletic track for the third and final event in the Devon Open Series league.

A team from Torbay, North Devon (based at Braunton), Bideford, City of Plymouth, Erme Valley, Exeter and Newton Abbot took part in the team contest with Tavistock AC and they were joined by athletes from Cornwall AC, Bude, Cheltenham and the Newquay and Par club, taking part as guests.

Bolstered by a big contingent of junior athletes, Tavistock AC will have undoubtedly improved on their fourth position in the league. Going into Sunday’s event they were just 33 points behind third placed Torbay and 218 behind leaders City of Plymouth. With strong field eventers and sprinters, the club will have undoubtedly closed the gap. Results to be posted at www.tavistockathletics.co.uk
