LAST Sunday, Tavistock Rugby Club’s Under-8s played their first-ever match against Saltash, having trained for two years but never played a fixture before now.
The team should have started matches last year, but rugby fixtures were not permitted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the restrictions didn’t dampen their spirits, and the squad has trained hard, learning the game and having fun.
Understandably there was a tremendous amount of excitement for Sunday’s fixture. Despite heavy rain and a waterlogged pitch, the team performed exceptionally, showing off all the skills they had learned in two very close games. This weekend the team makes the journey north to Bideford.
