Walter Parsons League Cup

Callington Town 0

Tavistock AFC 3

THE Lambs booked their place in the last sixteen of the Walter Parsons League Cup when they beat local rivals Callington.

Once again the manager had to make changes to the starting line up with Lewis Daw serving a suspension; it meant Dan Evans moving into centre back and Rikki Shepherd moving from mid field to full back. Dave Hallett was on the bench having recovered from injury.

The Lambs almost scored in their first attack in the opening minute when Jack Crago provided an inch perfect pass to put Lewis Coombes in on goal but the referee whistled for off side.

The visitors took the lead in the sixth minute when a flowing down the right flank, saw Jack Crago produce a magnificent cross; Lewis Coombes was on hand to power home a header from eight yards.

Danny Brooks then made a fine run down the left but his great pull back into the six yard box was cleared for a corner kick. The first real threatening attack by Callington came in the 18th minute when ex-Lambs’ player Lewis Edwards let fly from 22 yards but the shot was well wide of the target.

The home team continued to try and get a foot hold in the game, but the Lambs were in great form and restricted their efforts to long range, and Jack Ord in the visitors’ goal dealt with anything that was on target. The Lambs continued to control the game and just before the interval Danny Brooks and Jack Crago exchanged accurate passes, putting Crago in on goal, but he dragged his shot wide of the target from 15 yards.

Five minutes into the second half the Lambs doubled their lead when another fine move saw Josh Robins and Dan Follett exchange passes, with Robins finding Lewis Pacey on the angle of the penalty area; his sublime shot arced into the top corner of the net giving keeper Brothwick no chance of saving.

Callington continued to work hard, but the Lambs’ defence were in no mood to concede, dealing with any threat. The nearest they came to scoring was in the 59th minute when Will Sargent let fly from 20 yards, but his effort flew high over the bar.

The visitors controlled the midfield and always looked the more likely to score In the 80th minute another terrific move split the home defence wide open; Lewis Pacey got into the penalty area playing an inch perfect cross for Kelvin Fyneboy to tap into the net from three yards, to seal a well deserved victory.

This was a really good team performance by the Lambs who controlled the game for long periods.
