Witheridge 1
Tavistock 6
THE Lambs overcame their disappointment in losing to Newquay in mid week with this resounding victory over the home side.
Jack Crago and Dave Hallett returned to the starting line up after being rested with Dan Follett and Kelvin Fyneboy keeping the subs bench warm alongside Lewis Pacey and Lyle Johnson.
On a hard and bumpy pitch with a strong breeze ball control was a little difficult.
It was the home side who created a couple of early chance as Tucker failed to get control of the ball when in on goal.
Tavistock’s first corner of the game came on 15 mins and their first goal. hallet’s cross saw Warren Daw set up Glynn Hobbs to send it wide and then from a resultant throw in Crago was on hand to stab home from close range.
10 mins later it was doubled when Crago on a surging run into the area was fouled by full back Avery. Up stepped Hobbs who had missed one against Newquay but this time made no mistake to put the Lambs in control.
Lewis Combes shot wide from another corner before the Lambs increased their lead event further. Lewis Daw surged forward out of defence and danced through the midfield and despite being fouled he remained on his feet, (a football league player would have gone to ground rolling around in agony). Referee Sam Littlefair played the advantage(a lesser ref would have whistled up for a foul) Daw then put Hobbs in on goal from out on the right and the ball flew low and hard into the net to make it 3-0.
Coombes then went on a run up the wing and turned inside to set up Ricky Shepherd to shoot and the ball fell for Crago to stab his second away.
The fifth goal was sheer class with a touch of the Brazilian World Cup goal by Carlos Alberto. The ball came into the area to Hobbs (Pele) who waited for Sheppherd (Alberta) to approach to lay off the ball to his right for Shepperd to smash it home. 5-0 at half time.
The half time talk to the home side was probably "Hello" it is time for us to wake up, we are playing Tavistock and we are 5 nil down, are we going to make a game of it in the second half?"
It must have worked as they came out for the second half all guns blazing and pulled a goal back within 5 mins of the restart. Tavistock’s custodian jack Ord was still clutching onto his Pillow when Will Babb shot past him to spoil the clean sheet.
That was all the home side had to offer by way of a comeback as the lambs took control once again. Hobbs missed a sitter but the home side were unlucky on 70 mins when they hit a post before the Lambs hit them for six on 75mins. from a hallett free kick Coombes headed home at the far post.
Withy put one over the bar from 3 yards out before the lambs finished the game forcing 5 corners but to no avail.
A thoroughly deserved victory that keeps them right up ther in third spot. A good all round performance.
