Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier
Callington Town 1
Elburton Villa 1
A LATE Ryan Lucassi strike earned Callington a deserved share of the points in a bruising encounter against Elburton Villa which saw both sides end up with ten players.
Villa had the perfect start and found themselves 1-0 up after just three minutes when Jake Miller converted but Callington continued to battle and were awarded a penalty on 23 minutes when Ryan Lucassi was fouled by Elburton keeper Jack Dixon; however, Kevin McCallion’s spot kick was easily saved by Dixon. Town felt aggrieved shortly after when what they claimed to be an even more stonewall penalty was waved away by the referee.
Five minutes into the second half and an off the ball incident led to a melee which was seen by one of the linesmen and the referee issued red cards for Callington’s Paul McAdam and Villa’s Miller.
Callington continued to press for the equaliser and were rewarded on 88 minutes when Ryan Lucassi was on hand to score.
In injury time they could have won the game but in the end both had to settle for a share of the points. Man of the match was Michael Lucas (Callington Town).
