Camelford 0
Tavistock AFC 2
TAVISTOCK AFC maintained their challenge for a least a top three place with another good win at Camelford.
Dave Hallett, Teigan Rosenquest and Josh Grant returned to the substitutes’ bench, as manager Stuart Henderson started with the same line up that played against Argyle.
The game started at a good pace but both teams were finding it difficult to get their passing moves going on a heavy playing surface. It was the Lambs who created the first real scoring opportunity in the 15th minute when Josh Robins produced a magnificent cross but Warren Daw’s terrific header went inches wide of the target.
Ten minutes later a great through ball from Dan Evans put Jack Crago in on goal but his shot went well over the bar. It was Tavistock that were now dominating possession, creating some good opportunities - Josh Robins shot wide in the 30th minute and both Shanley and Crago went close. A Robins’ cross saw Tyler Elliot terrific volley flash inches wide of the target.
The Lambs deservedly took the lead just before the interval when a fine move saw Jack Crago find Reece Shanley, who coolly fired the ball low into the far corner of the net from fifteen yards.
Tavistock should have made the game safe in opening ten minutes of the second half. When efforts from Tyler Elliot, Lewis Daw and Liam Prynn were all blocked on the goal line, and scrambled away for a corner kick.
On the hour Teigan Rosenquest replaced the impressive Tyler Elliot; he was soon in the action going very close with a fine effort two minutes later. Having survived this period with some resolute defending, Camelford gradually saw the possibility of an opportunity to get something out of the, game that should have been closed out by the visitors.
A corner kick for Camelford ended with Jenkins shooting wide of the target. Manager Henderson then brought on Dave Hallett; he found Josh Robins with a fine pass, who passed the ball square to Rosenquest, but his fierce shot was deflected away for another corner.
The Lambs doubled their advantage in the 74th minute when a great long ball from man of the match Dan Evans saw Prynn outpace the home defence — he calmly slotted the ball past advancing keeper Gwillam.
Jack Tribble then replaced Tallan Burns with 15 minutes remaining.
The home team had their best period of the game, although they were still limited to counter attacks, Camelford carried more punch and created a couple of reasonable chances, but Sam Borthwick was in fine form and squashed any chances of the home team scoring.
It was the Lambs that should have increased their lead in the dying minutes when a great pass from Hallett found Crago in on goal but the normally reliable goalscorer fluffed the chance as he sliced his shot wide of the target.
Although not at their best the Lambs were too strong for the young energetic Camelford side. On another day the Lambs would have had this game done and dusted by half time. Credit must go to the hosts who never gave up and battled away to the final minute.
