WELLINGTON TOWN 3
TAVISTOCK AFC 1
TAVISTOCK AFC manager Stuart Henderson, with Saturday’s FA Cup tie in mind, made seven changes to the normal starting XI and with Josh Oak not available Tom Watson took over in goal.
Wellington got off to a fast start pressing high up the pitch making it difficult to get their fluent passing game going.
The home team’s pressure saw them take the lead in the fourth minute when a good cross by new signing Humphries was headed home by Bryant.
Ten minutes later the home team doubled their advantage when a clearance by Lambs’ keeper Watson fired his clearance into the on rushing Bryant and the ball deflected of him into an unguarded goal.
The home team were now in control and Watson made a good save to deny Bryant a hat-trick.
Watson then made a good save but decided to roll the ball out to Dan Evans who was inside the penalty area; with two players in close proximity, he had no where to go and was robbed of the ball, giving Wadham the easy of task to score the third goal.
Manager Henderson made three changes at half time to try an retrieve the situation.
The Lambs reduced the deficit on the hour when Josh Grant finished off a fine move. Things got worse for Tavistock when Josh Robins pick up an injury with 15 minutes left. Having used all their subs they had to play the remainder of the game. They Lambs continued to press forward and created chances but a resolute home defence held firm to take all three points.
