GUEST of Honour at Tavistock Golf Club's men's dinner was Philip Parker. Club captain Richard Burrows told guests of Phil's many achievements and the extraordinary service he has given to golf at both national and county level.
Closely involved with amateur golf for many years, Phil has served as Devon County president, county treasurer as well as a delegate on the executive committee of the EGU (now England Golf). In 2012, when he was centenary president of Devon County Golf Union, he was presented with one of the top England Golf honours - the Gerald Micklem Award — for his outstanding contribution to further the interests of amateur golf in England. Thanking Richard for his kind introduction Phil then gave an entertaining and witty talk to the members.
In the men's fourball better ball team event the winners were Mike Sutcliffe, George Gawman, Tony Cooper and Dominic Rehaag with 80 points; runners up Chris Henderson, Alan Pope, Paul Congo and David Young scored 78 pts.
In the ladies' England Golf Medal Alison West topped the table with a nett 75, second Jenny Kay with a nett 78 on countback from Carolyn Crawford and Fran Horton.
