Devon seconds B West

THIS game was frantic from the start until the very end in a fascinating afternoon of cricket in where the momentum constantly shifted. Batting first Lewdown were reduced to 7-3 after Hutchins took three wickets with his first seven balls in a devastating opening burst.

Lewdown slowly clawed their way back as Hayden, first with Pengelly and then Horn, edged their way to 74. However, a superb direct hit from the boundary meant Hayden was run out for 33; Horn holed out the very next ball and they were 74-6.

But Tavistock failed to capitalise and Pearce (47) marshalled the tail well with Creasey hitting 18 including two sixes and captain Metherell ending on 23 not out as Lewdown closed on179 all out. Hutchins finished with figures of 4-37 and Hopkins 1-29.

Tavistock started steadily with James White (37) who with Stephens and then Gauler, reached 65 -1 in reply.

However, Edmonds (4-37) then produced an excellent spell to reduce Tavistock to 69-4, removing McGahey for a duck. Wickets fell steadily thereafter as Tavistock reached 98 -9 with Horn taking 2-24 and Metherell 2 for 33.

However, Hutchins (16 not out) and Milligan batted confidently for the last wicket easily keeping up with the run rate.

It was only when Clements finally spun out Milligan for 14 that the game ended with Tavistock 132 all out.
