TWO girls from the Power of 10 Performance squad in Tavistock Athletic Club travelled to Manchester for the Indoor Athletics Sportshall UK Finals.
They were part of the Devon U13 girls' team which successfully won the South West Championships beating the rest of the counties in the area. There were many great performances from the team on the day and successfully finished 5th.
In the girls' individual events Jenny Milburn was crowned UK champion and beat her opposition in the six lap time trial winning by more than three seconds. Sarah Bull successfully negotiated her heat of the four lap race to make the final and win the bronze medal.
Jenny and Sarah then took to the stage in the eight lap relay together. The girls, who are both coached by Adam Tofield, went in the 2nd heat with a fast time being set by the Surrey girls who won the 1st heat.
Adam decided that Jenny would start the race running three laps. The girls were in the lead for the first two and a half laps with the opposition just starting to overtake. Then Sarah took over for two laps and regained the lead. Jenny then took the baton for a further two laps and opened up more of a lead before passing to Sarah to sprint home one final lap.
The girls won their relay heat but were just 0.3 seconds off the overall winners from the 1st heat.
Adam said he was proud of what the girls had achieved: 'The girls have worked really hard over the winter and their desire, training attitude, discipline and hunger has paid off and they thoroughly deserve the success they have achieved.'
The girls capped off a successful winter season for the Power of 10 Squad with 33 championship medals being attained and several national appearances.
