CHADDLEWOOD Miners OB started on the front foot giving Lamertons' midfield and back four a torrid time in the first 15 minutes. But the lack of finishing in front of goal would prove costly for the visitors.

In the 20th minute and against the run of play Lamerton took the lead when Richard Searle picked up possession down the right wing and  delivered a perfect cross to an unmarked Chris Wearing who headed home from eight yards.

Slack defending from the hosts allowed Chaddlewood to take control of possession and they fired a shot past a helpless Pete Daniel in the Lamerton goal to draw level.  Minutes later the away side took the lead when keeper Pete Daniel fumbled a shot followed up by a OB forward. Daniel soon made up for his earlier error by tipping the ball onto the crossbar and away to safety. 

Lamerton rang the changes with Alex Mayne, Ross Hann and Paul Breyley all came on and immediately the hosts began to look more threatening. Lamerton drew level when good work from substitute Breyley allowed Chris Wearing to breakthrough Chaddlewood's midfield; he passed to Simon Kelly inside the box, box poked the ball past the Chaddlewood keeper and into the corner of the net. 

An outstanding last ditch tackle from Alan Doidge saved Lamerton from conceding again.

In the third minute of stoppage time Lamerton's Simon Kelly was scythed down inside the Chaddlewood penalty area. It was Kelly who stepped up to take the resulting penalty and he made no mistake by rifling the ball into the net and sending Lamerton into the third round of the Devon Cup.

LAMERTON got off to the perfect start in this first round tie when Simon Kelly scored from a free kick 20 yards out after five minutes. 

They extended thier lead midway through the second half. Good interplay between Alex Mayne and Simon Kelly inside the home penalty area allowed Mayne, 15 yards out to hit a lovely curling effort past the keeper. Tregadillett pushed on and scored in the 85th minute with a well placed header into the top corner of the net.
