Devon Intermediate Cup
Lamerton 5
Hooe Rovers 2
AFTER a tight start with both side struggling to settle into the game it was the home side who took the lead midway through the first half. Richard Searle played in Alex Mayne who struck a neatly placed shot from 12 yards past the Rovers keeper and into the net.
Hooe started on the front foot in the second half and drew level five minutes in. Some poor defending from the home side allowed Hooe to gain possession on the edge of the Lamerton box. Hooe quickly played the ball to Garth Rich who slotted home from eight yards out. The away side scored a second just minutes later when Aaron Westmore struck a rasping effort from 30 yards which flew past keeper Pete Daniel and into the corner of the net. Westmore went from hero to villain when he was was sent off for violent conduct only minutes after giving Hooe the lead and Lamerton were able to take control of the game after his dismissal; however, the home side stuggled to breakdown a stubborn Hooe defence.
With 15 minutes remaining and with Hooe's legs tiring Lamerton levelled when Phil Wearing slotted home from six yards. Two goals in as many minutes from James Steer and Richard Searle put the game beyond Hooe. Steer hit his second and Lamerton's fifth in stoppage time when he latched onto a long ball from Jamie Montgomery.
