Looe Town 3
Lamerton 0
LAMERTON slumped to their second defeat of the season, after a lacklustre performance against a Looe Town who have now won seven consecutive games in the Duchy Premier.
Lamerton began positively and looked to be in control early on but their lack of thrust upfront resulted in no real opportunities on the Looe. Several confrontations and contentious challenges from both sides resulted in the game turning into a scrappy affair. Emotions spilt over just minutes before the break when Lamerton's Blair Vanstone was the alleged recipient of a head butt with the offending Looe player given a straight red card.
The second half began disastrously for Lamerton, as within five minutes the hosts took the lead. Lamerton full back, Tony Jones, failed to prevent a cross from the right wing to Looe centre forward Matt Barton, who converted at the near post from the edge of the six yard box.
Although Lamerton had a man advantage, the visitors failed to take control and fell two goals behind in the 65th minute, when Looe central midfielder Luke Cloke struck a ferocious effort from 25 yards, that flashed past the outstretched Chris Wearing in goal, off the post and into the net.
Lamerton were the architects of their own downfall for Looe's third goal. Lamerton right back Mike Bluett played a dangerous back pass to keeper Chris Wearing who was quickly closed down by Looe forward Matt Barton. Wearing, under pressure, scuffed his clearance from the back pass which fell to Looe midfielder Jordan Powell, who from 30 yards chipped the ball over the Lamerton keeper into the goal.
Lamerton substitute Ed Bradshaw hit the Looe woodwork with five minutes to go but with the game beyond the visitors' reach, the contest fizzled out with Looe taking a well deserved three points.
