Devon seconds B West
LEWDOWN second XI played Yelverton Bohemians and won a pressurised game completed under leaden skies with the threat of rain. It meant Lewdown needed to finish in a hurry. Having won the toss and put Yelverton into bat on a pitch that had sweated under covers during rain on Friday night, Lewdown reduced Yelverton to 2 for 6 as the wicket produced uneven bounce in the first few overs.
Yelverton recovered well to pass 50 without further loss but suffered a cruel blow when Pearson had to retire hurt. They posted a total of 142 all out when Pearson hobbled back out as the last man but was promptly caught by Metherell off the bowling of Creasey.
Metherell also took four wickets as Lewdown's best bowler and Keen and Spear joint top scored for Yelverton with 22 runs each. Remarkably, Tom Pengelly took four catches for Lewdown in the field in his first game for the second XI after breaking his leg in the football season.
Lewdown set about their total with purpose with Brandon Horn hitting a number of sixes on his way to 30 and Olly Brown finishing unbeaten with a classy 56 and looking set to tee off again next week.
Lewdown chased down the total in 25 overs and Vinson, Spear and Roe bowled well in taking a wicket each.
