Lamerton 2

Looe Town 3

LAMERTON tasted defeat for the first time this season after a disappointing performance against the newly promoted Looe Town.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot after Lamerton centre half Paul Breyley brought down Looe striker Matt Barton just inside the Lamerton penalty area; Barton stepped up to convert the spot kick.

Lamerton conceded a second after 30 minutes. Looe were able to break from midfield into the Lamerton box and it was Matt Barton who struck a shot past Lamerton keeper Chris Wearing into the roof of the net.

Although the home side struggled to get a foot hold in the first half the hosts reduced the deficit ten minutes from half-time.

Richard Searle produced a moment of quality for Lamerton when the central midfielder beat the Looe offside trap, rounded the Looe keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net to give his side a boost.

However, any comeback from Lamerton was short lived, as on the stroke of half-time Looe got their third from right wing Matt Woodgate, who fired the ball into the net from 12 yards after Lamerton's defence failed to fully clear the ball to safety following a goal-line clearance from a Matt Barton effort.

The early stages of the second half saw Lamerton once again reduce the deficit when Simon Breyley struck an effort into the top left hand corner of the Looe net from a set piece.

But that was as good as it got for Lamerton as although the hosts searched for an equaliser they failed to test the Looe keeper throughout the remaining minutes of the second half.
