THE volunteers, runners, joggers and walkers attending the Tamar Trails Park Run on August 11 were pleased to welcome the Mayor of Tavistock Councillor Paul Ward and family.

Two of his children took part in the event and completed the five kilometres in under 30 minutes.

Prior to acting as starter, the mayor gave words of encouragement for the run ahead and also invited the visitors from outside the Tavistock area to visit the town itself.

The free to enter 5km run that takes place every Saturday at 9am is an off-road park run which starts near the Tamar Trails Centre in Gulworthy - it is well known for the beauty of its setting and for the testing nature of its terrain. The participants range in age from four to 80 plus and in ability from beginners to elite athletes. All are welcome.

There were 131 participants who completed the course this week, some accompanied by dogs and with one runner pushing his child in a buggy. As with all park runs internationally, the event is organised entirely by volunteers (15 this week).
