Plymouth and West Devon four
Yelverton Villa 2
Woodford 3
A DISAPPOINTING first half performance, which lacked any passion, saw Villa gift their opponents a 2-0 lead at half time.
Despite dominating possession, Yelverton failed to convert their chances, unlike Woodford who clinically finished theirs.
Villa began the second half with greater determination putting Woodford on the back foot. A dominant midfield performance from Joel Blatchford and great attacking play from Mike Chatfield and Josh Vernon delivered a series of opportunities for Villa and brought the best out of the Woodford keeper.
It was only a matter of time before Villa got their breakthrough which came from new player Anthony Coles, who calmly finished after some good work down the left from Chatfield and Josh Drummond.
As Villa pressed for the equaliser, Woodford packed their defence and looked to play on the break and, against the run of play, they extended their lead, after 75 minutes, with a well taken finish by their captain .
Villa were left with a mountain to climb, but heads did not drop, and five minutes later were given a lifeline when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Blatchford. Coles stepped to fire home for his and Villa's second.
Yelverton laid siege to the Woodford goal for the final 10 minutes, but could not manage to earn the point that the second half deserved.
