THE Mount House first rugby seven crowned an excellent season by winning the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) Small Schools Tournament at Oundle School in Northamptonshire.

Their first pool opponents failed to appear but with skill and energy in their first match they overwhelmed Bickley Park from Kent, scoring nine tries in their 51-0 victory. Against St Hugh's from Oxfordshire, they showed outstanding defence, and imagination in attack to score five tries, and concede one to win 31-5.

Againt quarter-final opponents, St Bede's from Surrey, they cruised to a 43-0 victory. The team continued its fine form in the semi-final against St Barnardiston Hall from Suffolk in an emphatic 24-5 win.

In the final against Winterfold House from Worcestershire they scored early tries through Joe Beck and Hunter Strand and it was 14-5 at half time.

Bertie Hughes caught the ball from the kick-off and ran the length of the field to score. One further try from Jonty Walliker sealed a memorable 24-5 win, ending the team's season, and Mount House rugby on a high note.
