OKEHAMPTON Argyle has appointed Kevin Taylor as manager of the first team for next season. Kevin is a 'UEFA 'B' licensed coach and is well respected in local footballing circles. He has a tremendous knowledge of the game in the West Country, having previously been development officer and head coach in Plymouth for Arsenal Soccer Schools (South West) and having held managerial positions at Bere Alston United and Holsworthy. His playing career included ten years in the South Western League with eight of those being spent at Tavistock AFC. Argyle are also delighted to welcome Reg Wonnacott to the management team. Reg will work as joint second team manager with Nelson Voaden. Reg has been a successful manager with South Zeal United in the Devon and Exeter League and has a great knowledge of football in the Okehampton area. His playing career included Devon County League experience with Chagford and he enjoys considerable respect locally. Pre-season training for Argyle will start on Tuesday, July 1 in Simmons Park from 7pm till 8.30pm and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at these times in the pre-season period. All players interested in playing for either of the men's adult sides should turn up at the clubhouse with their kit for these sessions. The South West Peninsula League season begins on Saturday, August 9 and a full programme of friendlies is currently being arranged from mid-July to early August. Division one East should be very competitive this coming season with Tavistock AFC joining from the Premier Division and two new clubs, St Martins (Exeter) and AFC Brixham, having been admitted. This means that the division will run with its full complement of 18 teams and the team finishing in last place will be due for relegation to one of the feeder leagues.
Kevin Taylor.
