ON Saturday evening nine members of Okehampton Running Club took part in what was a new experience for many. This was the 10k Wild Night (head torches used) Run at Haldon Forest.
The race was held in fairly good weather conditions, starting and finishing near the Ridge Café at Buller’s Hill. The course was slightly longer than 10 kilometre and was over undulating ground, including over 300m of climbing. The first half gave everyone a false sense that the race was not going to be too hard work, as it was generally downhill. However, the second half was mainly climbing and contained a brutal uphill section. A fallen tree added an interesting hurdle about half way round the route!
ORC Christine Fritsch has taken part in three Wild Night Races already this winter season. She ran an excellent 1 hour 03 minutes 03 seconds for this race and was first ORC lady home. Andy Collyer was the first ORC to finish in 1.02.04. Not far behind were Nicola Smith in 1.04.26; Lora Medland 1.04.26; Mags Jarvis (first female 60 plus) 1.04.49; Jo Bradford 1.10.41; Jo Turner 1.12.49; Ali Holliday 1.12.49; Kerry Morashti 1.12.57
