Emily (13), a student at Plymouth College, was in Surrey to compete in both the British Pistol Club Open women’s competition at both 10 and 25 metres, followed by her international debut in the British Junior International Championships.
The event brought together junior shooters (under 21) from around the globe to compete in a range of pistol and rifle disciplines at the home of British Shooting — the Lord Roberts Centre in Bisley.
Emily started the week in fine style with her first win in the British Pistol Club 25 meter where she posted a competition personal best of 553/600 including her first perfect 50/50 series in the 25 metre rapid fire. She backed this up on Sunday by posting her second perfect 50/50 and ending top female shooter in the 25 metre discipline.
After a day training on Monday with her England coach and mentor Margaret Thomas, Emily made her international debut on Tuesday with the 25 metre and finished her detail in third place with another competition PB. With the 10m pistol Grand Prix on Wednesday and the 10m women’s pistol on Thursday Emily managed a top 10 finish in every event and secured her place as one of the top Under 21 shooters in the UK.
Emily at 13 was the youngest competitor in the Junior International by more than years and shot along side several athletes, who posted consideration scores for the Youth Olympics.
Emily is now focused on the Welsh Open Pistol Championships in October along with making her debut for the Devon county team later this year and the British Schools Championships where she will compete on the national stage with her younger sister Phoebe for the first time.
