Tavistock ladies’ firsts 0
TAVISTOCK ladies travelled to Exeter University this week for an interesting game. The visitors were second in the league, with Exeter closely behind in third position.
Tavistock travelled with only 11 players and knew they were in for a tough game. Exeter University were an extremely well drilled team and spent the first ten minutes of the match transferring the ball around their team, not allowing Tavistock much contact with the ball.
The visitors were patient and allowed them time to do this while applying pressure. Tavistock’s patience prevailed and the ladies began to unpick Exeter’s momentum.
Lois Thornton and Alice Lamb worked hard to apply the pressure and were able to make breaks into the attacking D. Robynne Fenwick and Amy Headon persisted in the midfield to keep the pressure up. Tavistock’s efforts were rewarded by some attacking short corners. Fenwick, Jo Gasper and George Patterson were unlucky not to get any of their shots into the goal.
Tavistock worked together well, all the players preventing Exeter’s attack as best they could.
Tavistock’s defence were put under a lot of pressure. Players Patterson, Laura Colwill, Janice Scott and Jenny Lane all made excellent saves and clearances preventing as many goals as best as they could.
Maddie Jones, Tavistock’s goalkeeper, was consistently under pressure from Exeter’s attack and made many brilliant saves - which made her woman of the match.
