MORE than 180 children from 10 local schools attended the Hockey Festival at Okehampton College led by Okehampton Hockey Club and the Okehampton Comm-unity Recreation Association.

Schools attending were Boasley Cross, North Tawton Hatherleigh, Oke-hampton, Bridestowe, Lydford, South Tawton, Northlew, Exbourne and Chagford.

Stuart Lord, OCRA manager, told the Times: ‘From all the smiles and focus, the festival achieved its aim to help girls and boys of all abilities be active, develop skills, have fun, build confidence and an enjoyment of hockey.  

‘It is great for our community to have such a fantastic club and set of coaches at Okehampton Hockey, that want to help children, young people and adults of all abilities enjoy the game.’

The Gold Accredited club have Saturday morning sessions for children in school years 4-7 between 9.30am-10.30am and young people in school years 8-11 at 10.30am-11.30am at Okehampton’s all weather pitch.

Stuart added: ‘A big thanks should also go to the excellent young leaders the club have developed through working with England hockey.
