THIS year sees the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra celebrate its 20th anniversary and for one year only the course will revert back to its original distance of 34 miles.
By ultra marathon standards the DD, which starts and finishes in Princetown, is a mere baby. However, it may only be 32 miles long but what it lacks in distance it more than makes up for with stunning scenery, adverse weather (even in June!) and hills, hills and more hills.
The Teignbridge Trotters took over the organising of the event in 2011, keeping many of its traditions but at the same time introducing lots of new ideas. The race has gained a real cult following, with many runners returning year after year. It has now become one of those races that runners have to have on their CV.
Tavistock Athletic Club’s Adam Holland held on to the lead yet again on the Dartmoor discovery winning it for the second year on the row with a time of 3 hours 58 minutes 47 seconds beating David Tomlin from Cheltenham Harriers. The next in for TAC was Tracey Ann Cole 5.58.38 followed by Jason Shipton 6.02.55 then Pete Bazley with 6.03.11.
