COTEHELE Quay Gig Club's third Tamar Challenge took place on Saturday. This is a nine-mile handicapped pursuit race from Saltash Bridge to Cotehele Quay. Five other clubs entered from Tamar and Tavy, Rame, Looe, Bude and Rock with a record number of 13 gigs taking part. Some clubs brought their gigs by trailer but Rock and Tamar and Tavy also rowed down to Saltash in the morning along with all four Cotehele Quay gigs. The race started with gigs setting off at intervals according to the make-up of each crew with the last crew setting off 15 minutes after the first. Full results can be seen on the club's website: http://www.cqgc.org.uk">www.cqgc.org.uk First past the post and winners of the Tamar Challenge trophy was Tamar and Tavy, a mixed age female crew, in Ginette and this year there was a trophy for the fastest crew which was won by Cotehele Quay men's A team in Cream of Cornwall who finished in a new record time of 58 minutes 49 seconds. The club's ladies' A team recorded the fastest time for an all- female crew.
