THREE Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in The Great Escape on Saturday — a half marathon from Princetown to South Brent.
Starting from Princetown in the heart of the Moor, the route takes in the last 13.2 miles of the big, wide open spaces of southern Dartmoor. It’s a downhill route with a few surprisingly technical uphills.
The route crosses the head of the Erme Valley and traverses the Erme canyons, with some interesting moorland vistas along the Abbots Way before the long descent into South Brent.
A real taste of Dartmoor trail running. The first of the BATs was Chris Anthony in 2 hours 02 minutes 10 seconds, followed by Dave Adams 2.43.29 and Pam Adams 2.43.30.
On a scorching Bank Holiday Monday six Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) made the short hop to Peter Tavy for the annual Peter Tavy Plod.
The Peter Tavy Plod is a scenic and undulating 4.5 mile course run over moorland tracks and woodland trails with stunning panoramic views.
The first mile and half is sharp uphill onto the moor to Stephens Grave and the runners then enjoy a downhill moorland track to the road and then onto the woodland trails before returning to Peter Tavy.
The six BATs were Marcia Macey, Hilary Head, Chris Anthony, Murray Turner, Andy Cowden, and Martin Head.
