THE Mount Kelly boys’ first XI made a positive start to their hockey term gaining some excellent results on a tour to Bath.
The first game was a physical encounter with Milton Abbey School. In cold conditions the boys performed admirably and after a closer first quarter ran away with the game 4-0, goals coming from Ollie Allsop, Nick Buckeridge-Hobbs and Ben Dunlop. Due to freezing conditions on day two Mount Kelly’s first game of the day was postponed before they changed venue to face Wells Cathedral School at their brand new facility. Mount Kelly played with much greater intensity and fluidity to win 4-2.
Since then the Mount Kelly first XI have continued their unbeaten start of the season against a number of large independents from across the region. They beat Truro School 3-1 and West Buckland School 6-1 respectively.
Last weekend saw the 1st XI’s toughest test so far against Blundell’s School. A break away goal from Blundell’s School saw them go 1-1 into half time but in the second half Mount Kelly applied further pressure onto the Blundell’s defence, forcing the mistake at the back and capitalising with Leon Horn at the back post.
The game was then sealed when year 11 pupil Jack Bellamy stuck away a set piece from a short corner providing Mount Kelly with a 3-1 victory; increasing their unbeaten run.
