THE Chichester Arms in Chillaton played host last Thursday to Tavistock Wheelers for their first ever three person, 25 mile team time trial.

The route, which went out of Chillaton, to Sourton via Lydford and back via Lewtrenchard was chosen with safety in mind as it has only left turns, but the first thing the teams had to do was to ride up Chillaton hill, a daunting prospect. Organiser, Dan Worth, of Tavistock Wheelers said: 'I wanted to organise something a little different and the idea of a time trial where cyclists have to work as a team to race against the clock really appealed. While some of the teams were old hands at time trials, for a lot of the teams it was their first time for an event like this, which made the whole evening much more fun.'

The overall winners on the night were Phil Collings, Tim Mitchell and Gray Roberts, who made it back in an impressive 1 hour 05 minutes. First mixed team back was Lee Adams, Dee Richards and Ruth Davies at 1hour 16 minutes and the first all ladies team back was Yasmin May, Jo Beighton and Sandy Lelliot at 1hr 40mins.

Chris Beighton a spokesman from Tavistock Wheelers said: 'All agreed that the event was a success and it looks like the Chillaton 3up TT now has a permanent place in the Wheelers cycling calendar.'
