South Zeal 6
Hemyock seconds 1
TOP of the league Hemyock came to the Recreation Ground unbeaten and no doubt confident of extending that excellent start to the season.
However, having won every game thus far in the league this season Zeal had different ideas. The game began in a brisk and competitive fashion, with possession being exchanged frenetically for the first 15 minutes.
South Zeal managed to strike first after 20 minutes thanks to Harley Cann's impressive form in front of goal continuing, putting them into the lead.
The home side now had greater control over the game, with Redd Cann and Harry Smith being tenacious in the midfield battle. This approach bore fruit again, when Cann netted his second from close range to put Zeal 2-0 up.
Harry Smith's hard work gave just reward when he tapped in the third after 35 minutes.
Hemyock scored a penalty shortly after this however, just before the break, captain Harley Cann completed an imperious first half hat-trick to give Zeal a 4-1 lead at half-time.
The second half began in an equally competitive manner. South Zeal's fifth came when 16 year-old Samuel Jones scored, having worked hard to get into the goal scoring position.
Zeal were now in cruise control, with Lee Gilbert and Ben Davey commanding and competent at the heart of the defence. Redd Cann put the cherry on the cake, with a stunning strike from near the by line , which smashed into the roof of the net. Ben Davey was South Zeal's man of the match. The great support was greatly appreciated by the club.
