Okehampton Battle of the Bands kicked off in style last week with the first heat of the contest.
The first six acts took to the stage in the Charter Hall, providing fantastic energy, enthusiasm and talent.
In a closely judged heat the eventual winners were Tavistock-based band 3's a Crowd. They impressed the judges with their unique take on performing crowd-pleasing material with an original twist.
In second place were LGM One, with Western Approach clinching third place. The judges congratulated all the entrants for setting a high standard for the rest of the competition.
Chris Hodgson, Battle of the Bands organiser, said: 'This is a fantastic start to the competition. 2013 is going to be a great Battle of the Bands.
'All the bands that played in heat one gave brilliant performances, providing fantastic entertainment for the audience and making the judges' decision really difficult.
'Three's a Crowd are a great fun band who engaged brilliantly with the audience, and are sure to be crowd pleasers at the Party in the Park final on Saturday, August 3.'
The second heat took place yesterday (Wednesday) with another six acts performing.
Heat three on July 17 also promises to be a showcase for local talent as Okehampton bands DownFall and Freedom Falls will be among those duking it out for a place in the Party in the Park finale on August 3. Last year's winners Badland Bandits will perform a headline set at the third heat on July 17.
Since winning the competition the band has gone from strength to strength, including a European tour and mini-tour with Lastwind — the band formerly known as Hawkwind.
