A SCHEME which encourages local residents to get active celebrates six successful years of action next week.
Tavistock Walk and Talk is part of the national initiative 'Walking for health' which aims to encourage people to increase their physical activity by taking part in led health walks in the local community. Similar groups are run in Okehampton, Broadwoodkelly, and Horrabridge.
The initiative is currently hosted by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support. Their aim is to work together to help people to enjoy inspiring health walks, whatever their level of fitness.
Kate Wright, Walk and Talk Co-ordinator, said: 'In the last year we have been able to add some variety to the walks. Thanks to Tavistock Community Sports Centre we have been able to walk around the athletics track. We have also increased the number of car share walks on Thursdays due to their popularity.
'Special thanks go to the volunteers who give up their time to plan and lead the walks.'

New walkers are always welcome and volunteers are always needed. Local people may even want to start their own village scheme. For more information contact Kate Wright on 01822 813600 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
