MEMBERS of the Dartmoor Rescue Group found the body of a 38-year-old man at Copplestone near Crediton after being called in by police to assist in their search. Ivan Ingham was discovered by the DRG?s Tavistock section in undergrowth in a lane near the village on Saturday afternoon. He had been reported missing by his family the previous day and door-to-door enquiries were carried out. Police launched a missing person search of the area at 9am on Saturday with ten police officers, dogs and a police helicopter. At midday they called in Okehampton Dartmoor Rescue Group, who in turn asked their Tavistock colleagues to assist. Bud Francis, controller of the Tavistock Group, said it was not unusual for Tavistock members to be called to assist the Okehampton group, as during the day their members were likely to already be engaged elsewhere. ?We arrived at about 1pm and Andy Aiano, the Okehampton group controller, gave us an area to search. I deployed our teams, and between the two groups we had about 30 people in all, including three dog teams,? Bud said. ?A Tavistock foot team searching up a lane about three-quarters of a mile from the man?s home found his bag, and it didn?t take much to find him after that,? he said. Bud said the group was very experienced at organising searches and they never drew the line where they went. ?Our last two calls have been off the moor,? he said. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
