Division 1
Honiton 2
Chagford 0
IN blistering hot conditions, Chagford struggled against another bottom of the table club.
Having lost the previous Monday to title chasing Morchard Bishop the visitors may have thought this task might be easier but Honiton fought as a team fighting for survival should.
Chagford cannot be faulted for the effort put into both matches but they really need an outright striker.
They started the better in the first half but the only real chance was Emanuel's fierce drive that crashed against the underside of the home bar.
Honiton came back and dominated much of the half, being kept at bay by some last ditch defending.
Honiton opened the scoring on 51 minutes, taking advantage of a lack of concentration at the back, Mackay scrambling in a scruffy goal.
The thunderous weather finally broke, heavy rain making the conditions tricky and stretching the game.
Will Cork tried passing the ball to Sanders when he might have tried a shot at an unguarded goal.
Honiton broke forward almost immediately Broom picked up a misplaced pass and swept the ball home. Looking dispirited, Chagford had Scott Luscombe to thank for holding the score down with a couple of fine saves, including one from a penalty.
They then rallied and Mortimer saw his header hit a post and a big penalty shout was waved away.
Eventually, the game petered out with Chagford suffering a fifth defeat in six.
Division Six
Chagford Res 3
Cheriton Fitzpaine 1
THE Reserves somehow found themselves two up at the break, surprising all at the Memorial Ground.
The early tussles were even, Saul Scarry having to make at least one great save for the hosts, his opposite number having little to do.
Mid-way through the half, Jerome Whatley was able to open the scoring with a well placed penalty and Chagford raised their game accordingly.
The second goal came from increased Chagford pressure as they found their passing game.
Simon Ralph worked his way across the edge of the Cheriton penalty area and thumping his shot into the top of the net, just before the break.
The Cherries continued to make life difficult for the home side, pulling a goal back in the second half.
Chagford were soon awarded another penalty which substitute Nick Elliot-Shircore dispatched with aplomb.
It was then a case of controlling the remainder of the match, which Chagford managed well, for a fourth unbeaten match on the spin.
Neither team plays this Saturday although the Firsts entertain Tipton St John on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).
