South Zeal Utd 2
Crescent 1
ZEAL started well in their penultimate match on Saturday and took the lead after 15 minutes when Dan Wakeham broke through down the right and played a great ball through to Darren Gilbert, who curved a superb shot past the Crescent keeper.
Zeal should have gone in at half time three or four goals up, but chances were missed and it seemed that everyone wanted to score a goal. As the game went into the second half this cavalier attitude eventually allowed the visitors to equalise from the penalty spot.
Just as a draw seemed to be the final outcome Robbie Sandercock's well-taken corner allowed Lee Gilbert to dummy the Crescent defence and leave Tom Reilly to hit the winner from 6 yards.
The previous Saturday Zeal started well against a very good Phoenix side but were eventually beaten 5-0 as after going a goal down they pushed on in an effort to get back into the game and allowed the visitors forwards too much space.
Zeal's final game of the season was at home to league champions Sidmouth on Monday.
South Zeal will hold their dinner dance at the Fingle Glen golf complex on Friday May 28.
