WITH November nearly upon us it is the time of year to pay our respects to those who fought in the two world wars — Okehampton will hold its annual remembrance parade on Sunday, November 8.
The parade led by the Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion will form up in Fore Street opposite the town hall at 10.25am before marching off at 10.30am. On arrival at All Saints Parish Church, there will be a short service of remembrance at the town’s War Memorial in the churchyard, followed by two minutes’ silence and the laying of wreaths.
A church service will then follow until around noon when the parade reforms to march back to town. On arrival in Fore Street the parade will be inspected by the town mayor Cllr Paul Vachon.
The Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion is hopeful that the service, cadet and youth contingents taking part will be joined by as many towns-folk as possible to honour the fallen of two world wars.
Remembrance Sunday is also an opportunity for the nation to pay homage to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of Queen and country during the 20th century and more recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.
