THE Lions Club of Tavistock is starting its search for a young lady to wear the glittering tiara and wave a royal hand at this year’s Tavistock Carnival, so now is the chance for three lucky youngsters to win a chance to step up to the vacant throne as the new carnival princess and attendants.
All young ladies who apply, using the form in today’s Tavistock Times Gazette, or through the Facebook page or website, must be between the ages of seven and 11 years on July 1, 2018 and live within the PL19 and PL20 postal districts.
The competition is sponsored by the Tavistock Times Gazette and Lawsons of Tavistock and the club is delighted to have the continued support from both companies.
The judging will take place in Tavistock Parish Centre on Thursday, May 24 at 6pm with the official crowning during the Fun Day in the Meadows on Sunday, July 15 at 3pm.
The carnival princess and attendants will lead the carnival procession through the streets of Tavistock on Saturday, July 21 so the lucky winners must be available for these dates.
Tavistock’s ever popular carnival week, which Tavistock Lions Club has been organising for many years for and on behalf of the local community, starts on Friday, July 13 with an action packed week of events for all the family starting off with a ceilidh in the town hall and culminating in the procession on Saturday, July 21. The theme for this year is ‘Countries of the World’ and an entry form will be published in the Tavistock Times Gazette in early June. Now, though, is the time for everybody to get their thinking caps on.
With regard to transport in the procession, the Lions are starting to receive enquires from new organisations wishing to take part and are looking for anyone who can assist with a lorry or any form of vehicle. Anyone or company able to assist is asked to contact procession organiser Lion John Dawson on [email protected] as the club is keen to have as many people involved in the procession as possible.
For further details about the club, visit its website at www.tavistocklions.org.uk or its Facebook page or call 0845 8334807. See today’s Tavistock Times Gazette for your entry form.
