THE owners of Hurdwick Golf Course on the outskirts of Tavistock have announced it is to close on January 1, 2017.
Hurdwick Golf Course was established in 1989 and has been a friendly, enjoyable and challenging course since that time, said the owners Martin and Joanna Wood.
In a statement to the Times they said: ‘Hurdwick, like an increasing number of small golf courses, has faced many challenges — the national decline in membership of golf courses and in golf generally in favour of other sports, the weather in the area and the challenge of running a small business — all of which we have not been able to overcome in recent years, despite considerable investment in the club.
‘This has led us to have made the extremely difficult decision that the future of Hurdwick is not in golf and we will be looking at other uses for the land.’
