A NEW local directory for North Tawton has helped to buy a new emergency defibrillator for the town. North Tawton Town Council has updated its local directory, listing organisations and businesses in and around the town. The Local Emergency Plan was encorporated into the publication. The booklet was funded entirely by money from advertisers, with the council paying for the emergency plan section of the booklet. Due to the large number of advertisers, there was a surplus of money left over. £250 is to be donated to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, with the remainder going towards the purchase of another defibrillator. The council already has one defibrillator unit on its office wall in the town square. Thanks to the advertising revenue and various other donations, the council is now in a position to purchase the second defibrillator unit, which will be installed at the bottom of Fore Street. It will be position on the wall of Fore Street Garage, by kind permission of proprietor Kevin Hodge and Phil Martin of AL Martin and Sons. Siting defibrillator units is not straight forward, as they require a power supply for the trickle charger, and a small heater inside the cabinet. Land between Fore Street Garage and Phil Squires Builders will be one of two sitings for a supply of sand bags, to be used in the event of flash flooding. North Tawton's flood defence scheme is designed to cope with heavy rainfall, but in case of blocked drains or culverts, the bags will be available there and at the fire station. The council expressed thanks to the fire service, Phil Squires and Phil Martin for agreeing to site the sand bags.
